About BreastCare Tasmania

BreastCare Tasmania offers a central hub for women with breast conditions, providing expert advice, multidisciplinary care, and a patient-focused approach to breast cancer treatment and related services.

Who We Are

BreastCare Tasmania is an initiative of Hobart surgeons David Finkelde and Nanda Kandamany to provide women with breast cancer and other breast conditions with an easy single point of access to specialist advice and information.

David is a specialist breast cancer surgeon and Nanda is a plastic and reconstructive surgeon. They each have their own private practice and work in close consultation with the ICON Cancer Centre and Hobart Pathology to provide the co-ordinated multidisciplinary care needed for the current treatment of breast disease.

How it works

If you and your General Practitioner have decided that you need treatment for breast cancer or related breast diseases or if you need specialist advice regarding new breast symptoms, then the first step is to obtain a referral which would usually be directed to David. Referrals about cosmetic breast asymmetry or deformity or to discuss reconstruction can specifically be directed to Nanda.

At consultation you will receive a comprehensive assessment including  physical examination and review of all available investigations. Your surgeon will then discuss with you the probable diagnosis, whether further tests are needed, and what is likely to be the best treatment for you and why.

We encourage patients to bring a list of any questions or concerns they may have about their reason for consultation with them and we will do our best to address these as fully as possible. We know that sometimes you think of something on returning home and we are more than happy for you to contact our staff with any additional questions and we will respond to you as quickly as possible.

Please feel free to bring a support person to any of your consultations.

If at any stage you decide that BreastCare Tasmania is not the right service for you, we will provide our updated expert opinion to your family doctor to facilitate your ongoing treatment.
